Major corporate & organizational food and financial donors to the Community Food Banks of South Dakota (formerly The Food Service Center, Inc., in Sioux Falls & Black Hills Regional Food Bank, Inc., in Rapid City)

Community Food Banks of South Dakota depends on the generosity of local food industry and organizational donors who are willing to donate their surplus food and funds to help feed those in need.

SIOUX FALLS AREA
  • Dean Foods: For years Dean Foods has donated half-gallons of milk each week to the Sioux Falls Food Pantry. This milk has been critical to providing our clients with an important nutritional item and to ensure families with children have some milk for cereals and cooking. In 2005, Dean Foods donated over 10,500 pounds of dairy product.
  • Hy-Vee (Cleveland Ave.): A longtime supporter of the fight against hunger in the Sioux Falls area. They provide daily donations of food and grocery items that are distributed out to those in need through the pantry. A daily stop for our route driver, this Hy-Vee location donated over 42,500 pounds of food in 2005.
  • Hy-Vee (Empire Mall): A longtime supporter of the fight against hunger in the Sioux Falls area. They provide daily donations of food and grocery items that are distributed out to those in need through the pantry. A daily stop for our route driver, the Empire Hy-Vee donated over 74,00 pounds of food in 2005.
  • Hy-Vee (Marion Rd.): A longtime supporter of the fight against hunger in the Sioux Falls area. They provide daily donations of food and grocery items that are distributed out to those in need through the pantry. A daily stop for our route driver, the Marion Road Hy-Vee donated over 41,00 pounds of food in 2005.
  • Pizza Hut, Red Lobster & Olive Garden: These Sioux Falls restaurants are part of the Food Donation Connection, an organization that assists in providing an alternative to discarding excess safe unsold food by linking food service donors to agencies that administer programs to help the hungry. This food donation goes directly to the Food Pantry and consists mainly of protein. As it is already pre-cooked, it only requires reheating. In 2005 they donated over 12,000 pounds of food products.
  • Variety Foods: Another daily donor who has been a long time support of the fight against hunger. In 2005, they have donated nearly 10,000 pounds of grocery products to support the pantry and its effort to feed the hungry of our area.

RAPID CITY AREA

  • Coca Cola: Has been a donor for the last few years and has really came through for us. We do not even have to leave the Food Bank! They deliver pop, juice and water right to our back door. In 2005, they donated 385,000 pounds of beverages. Our biggest donor. Contact: Trevor Messenger
  • Crazy Horse Memorial: A longtime supporter. When Bob Forney, the CEO of Feeding America, was at the Rapid City Food Bank, Ruth invited us out to the mountain. We went to the top and walked out on the arm. Ruth has made it her mission to help fight hunger among Native Americans. She has ongoing food drives at the mountain all year long. In 2005, they donated 24,244 pounds of food and $14,000. Contact: Ruth Ziolkowski
  • Gillette Dairy: Another longtime supporter. We pick up once a week. In 2005 they donated 43,000 pounds of dairy products. This is product that is hard to get and very important in our daily diet. Contact: Dan or Toby (Dock Man)
  • Prairie Market: A new donor. Prairie Market has a new manager who has been very generous. In 2005, they donated more than 23,000 pounds of food. Contact: Mary Sawyer (Clerk)
  • Red Lobster: A new donor. They are part of the Food Donation Connection, which assists in providing an alternative to discarding excess safe unsold food by linking food service donors to agencies administering programs which help the hungry. This food donation goes directly to the Food Pantry and consists mainly of protein. This benefits families who may be living in a motel and only have a microwave, because the food is already cooked and just needs to be reheated. In 2005, they donated 3,202 pounds of food products. Contact: Shane (Manager)
  • Sara Lee/ Metz Bakery: Has donated bread and bakery products daily to our Rapid City Food Bank location for nearly 20 years. Annual donations average in excess of 150,000 pounds. Truly one of our greatest longtime supporters. Contact: Joan or Carolynn
  • Southside Safeway: A longtime supporter and a daily pickup. In 2005 they donated over 34,000 pounds of food. Contact: Jerry (Manager)
  • Sportsman Against Hunger: A longtime supporter. Hunters can take deer or other big-game animal to a commercial processor who will skin, de-bone, grind and package the meat. Some processors may be willing to negotiate a reduced fee for processing a game animal if all of the meat is donated to Sportsman Against Hunger. In 2005, we received 13,822 pounds of wild game meat donated. Contact: Jeff Olson
  • Westside Family Thrift Center: A longtime supporter. Pickup is Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They support the KOTA food drive by letting us use shopping carts every year for the Parade of Lights, and we have used their parking lot for several years to kickoff the food drive. They are also the main drop-off for the Boy Scout Food Drive every year. In 2005, they donated 7,000 pounds of food. Contact: Kevin (Mgr) or Jim
  • Westside Safeway: A longtime supporter and a daily pickup. In 2005 they donated over 35,000 pounds of food. Contact: Tom Ryland (Manager)
